Skin Loving IngredientsMy love for natural skincare started when I found out all the benefits of changing to natural ingredients. I was looking into everything in my house from the kitchen to the bathroom and finding ways of removing plastic, specifically packaging from each room.

I’ve been on a quest for a zero-waste lifestyle for a long time now and this gave me the perfect opportunity to investigate all aspects of my life. I noticed I was buying things because I’d always bought them. Or I’d seen an advert that promised miraculous results and a big part of that was an over riding feeling of I’ll buy this, and it will make me happy.

Ultimately buying more did very little to fill that void and what I started to learn was making things, being creative and ultimately helping others do the same. Bought me more happiness than I could ever have envisioned.

Once I started researching alternatives to my every day, I was hooked. I can swap this for this, I can make this instead of buying that, if I refill this, I won’t need to buy anything new… and on, and on it went.

NATURAL ALTERNATIVES

I loved finding out about all the natural alternatives, to this day one of my favourite recipes for a face mask is oats and baking soda. A simple yet effective face mask for softer, less irritated, and smoother looking skin.

(PS – If you’re struggling with eczema in this wet, cold weather then an oat bath can also do wonders for relieving that itch and help calm the irritation.)

Once I had an idea of which ingredients complimented each other, I decided to start playing and making recipes. With sodium bicarbonate for bath bombs, shea butter and vitamin E oil for face creams, cocoa butter for body lotion bars and the obsession grew.

SKIN LOVING INGREDIENTS

I’ve chosen all the products within Eco Ems based on their merits, but the ingredients have always been at the heart of the why I’ve chosen them.

You’ll find ingredients such as shea butter or coconut in the bars to help to solidify and ensure they use less packaging. Shea butter is a core in some of the products it has a high fatty acid content, which is fantastic for creating a barrier on the skin. Locking moisture in but keeping pollutants out. If you suffer from dry skin, you can use shea butter as a moisturiser to boost the appearance and give you a healthy-looking glow.

There are also essential oils infused into every product. Essential oils are plant derived and unlike fragrance oils are natural rather than synthetic. Humans have used aromatherapy for centuries in perfumes and medicine. Each has its on special properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and soothing, lending themselves to healing over the years. They also make the bars, creams and bath bombs smell amazing.

Everything that goes into the creams, bars and bottles has been added to boost the look and feel of your skin.

REPLACE EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS

Trying to find a variety of products to replace my everyday essentials was difficult to start with. I also knew that once I’d started to find out more about the impact plastic was having on the environment, I’d want to make it easier to buy better alternatives.

The Green Gift Sets were the beginning of Eco Ems Gifts and I’m proud to say that they are continuing to be a fantastic way to start your eco swaps.
