BEHIND THE BUBBLES: MORE FROM ECO EM
My Journey to Eco-Friendly Entrepreneurship
It has been 4 years since I decided to start Eco Ems Gifts, in that time I have met some wonderful people. I’ve been to markets and craft fairs all across the Midlands, I’ve had my products stocked at gift shops, refill vans and garden centres. I’ve moved home, created a workshop, started our vegetable garden and embraced all things eco-friendly along the way.
Eco Em’s isn’t just one thing it is our way of life, a lifestyle I love and have fully embraced over the last 6 years. It’s been an extraordinary journey filled with enthusiasm, learning, and plenty of trial and error. I want to share that story with you and highlight the behind-the-scenes that got me to where I am today.
The idea for Eco Ems
The idea for Eco Ems came from all the zero-waste swaps around my house. I launched an Instagram page to document these changes and provide tips and tricks to help others adopt a more sustainable lifestyle. As I learnt more about zero waste, I started creating my own low tox bathroom swaps. This exploration introduced me to the art of bath bomb making, and the product line evolved into what it is today. There were many learning curves and failed attempts along the way, but each one taught me significant lessons and helped me to perfect the 5 ingredient recipe I use now.
One of my funniest, however messy, memories is of a batch of bombs that went horribly wrong. I was sure that the recipe I was using could be simplified, but I made the mistake of using too much water as a binding agent. When I left them to dry, they fizzed over and turned into a sloppy mess! It was frustrating and, essential in the learning process. It taught me the value of precision and patience in the making process. Overcoming these obstacles has strengthened my resilience and determination to offer the best possible products.
Enthusiasm for sustainability and naturalist living
Eco Ems is founded on my enthusiasm for sustainability and naturalist living. I enjoy learning about new ingredients and sharing what I’ve learnt with others. I love gifting and second-hand shopping, it gives me great joy as does the prospect of making the world a better place. My ultimate goal is to become entirely self-sufficient one day. There’s nothing more enjoyable than growing our vegetables and discovering new DIY skills I didn’t know I had. I honestly think that you can accomplish everything and anything you set your mind to, and I hope to inspire others to embrace this mantra.
Natural skincare simply makes sense. Our skin is our greatest organ, and it absorbs much of what we apply to it. Natural ingredients allow us to feed our skin without the detrimental effects of synthetic chemicals. This principle guides the development of all Eco Ems products. I want to embrace all things green and share the benefits of natural skincare with you.
Running a business
Running a business comes with so many hurdles, but it also provides me with enormous satisfaction. Knowing that Eco Ems is helping people in making sustainable decisions and reducing their environmental footprint is extremely fulfilling. As we move forward, I am determined to continue this adventure with the same determination that I began with.
